2md Chronicles 7:14 Called by My Name

2 Chronicles 7:14   if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

In this scripture “called by my name” for us as Christians means those who put their trust in the saving Grace of God.  Praying is one way for us to show praise and adoration for our Lord. Billy Graham once said, “To get our nation on its feet, we must get on our knees.”  You can talk about prayer, you can see the importance of prayer, you can preach on the power of prayer, but most importantly you just have to do it! We need to seek his face and repent of our sinful ways.  Sinners are we, but God took on human flesh to rescue us. Jesus took our punishment and died in our place, we are just poor sinners, saved only by the grace of God. If we pray to our fullest, it should involve gratitude, confession, a deep yearning for communication, & adoration.  Then we are called to repent, “turn from their wicked ways”. Turn away from those things that God hates and turn toward those things that God loves. Not only personally, but also as a church we must repent. Acceptance & tolerance of sins in the church will bring the slow dying of the church.  There is hope in these verses, if we worship, pray, and repent, God will hear us and heal us, our land and the church. Notice this verse starts with the word “if”, so it requires action on our part. We have to come to the Lord, we have to pray, we have to repent, we have to worship for the healing of the land.  Is there hope for us today? I say, yes, this scripture is a calling for us and it gives us hope that the Lord will never leave us. He will heal and forgive.

Prayer:  Lord God, we do pray for the forgiveness of our sins, we repent of not following your guidance, but going our own way.  Let us not embrace what the world says, but embrace your will. Help us to see and understand that will for us and the church.  Bring down your healing power for your church and this land that we live in, so that all may come to know you. In Jesus name we pray.  Amen
